Williams Magnet Elementary School Reviews

We love Williams Magnet and all that our kids have learned there. Academics are emphasized along with being a good citizen, meaning helping others, listening, obeying rules and respecting other people and their property. The teachers are all very committed to their students and go above and beyond. The playground is awesome, and there's a real sense of community among the parents and faculty. The student body is very diverse, with kids from all over the world. This exposure is priceless!

This school is the nicest school I've been to. Their behavior requirements have made me a better person. The afterschool activites have given me higher self esteem and my friends there have excelling behavior and great personalites. I do agree the aids do need to be more strict walking us down the hallway. Teachers say they can hear the kids with their doors closed. But, I used to be homeschooled and dependant on the teacher for help, but they teach you independance and prepare you for college, allthough some teachers (not all) need to be nicer.

I decided to send my child to this school based on academics only. However, I soon realized that a child will not do their best if a child is not happy and excited about the school. This school needs to allow children to be children. I fear for some of those kids self esteem. What good is being smart when your child is emotionally depressed with low esteem.

I give Williams Magnet a 5 out of 5 stars. It is a great family friendly school. I love the teachers and the teaching method.

Although the parental involvement seems high (and I was very involved in my child's education), I did not enjoy our year there--and neither did my child. We will not be returning. The school was too large for my taste, had poor (and rude) supervision during recess, and didn't challenge the students academically. My child was in the first grade and had a caring teacher, but I think the quality of the education was lacking. My child is outgoing, intelligent and friendly --but never really felt happy being there--and she does love school. The staff aides were intimidating and non-personable and often talked inappropriately to the children. The playground was not very safe and I could go on but I won't. I'm not trying to speak for anyone but us we didn't care for the experience.

Williams has some good teachers, but the leadership is lacking. There is too much emphasis on AR tests. I also feel like my children have been given a lot of busy work as opposed to meaningful assignments. I would probably make a different choice if I could do it all over.

I looked at many schools before choosing Williams and have not been disappointed. I believe the high level of discipline allows the children to focus on learning. My child is excelling but has no behavioral issues so I can't respond to those that have commented on such. The school is open and encourages parent involvement. I think the principal does a good job of hiring qualified staff and supporting them. I wish there was more supervision at recess and the LRSD should make some playground improvements. Williams has programs and staff in place to help those that need remediation to reach grade level in reading and math but also keeps the children on the other end of the spectrum challenged through advanced math and accelerated reading. Overall, I believe my child is getting a high quality education at Williams and that my involvement there is welcome.

The Quality of academics at William is excellent. My child has drastically improved her reading and math skills. However, I must say that the staff needs to be a little more caring toward not just the child but the family as well. If your child has any kind of behavioral problem, you might think twice about sending your child through William's program because the staff will give up on them.

PTA at Williams Magnet is wonderful. They provide marvelous support to the students in many ways. Overall , Williams has many very caring teachers and is a above-average school. If your child is unfortunate enough to be assigned a teacher with questionable behavior, demand your child be moved to another teacher immediately. Please do not wait.
